Peter and the Starcatcher, a Peter Pan prequel adapted from the Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson novel of the same name, will open on Broadway at a yet-to-be-determined theater in spring 2012. Penned by Tony nominee Rick Elice and co-directed by Tony winner Roger Rees and Tony nominee Alex Timbers, the play had a sold-out off-Broadway run earlier this year at the New York Theatre Workshop. No casting has been announced for the Broadway production.
In this innovative new work, a company of 12 actors plays some 50 characters, all on a journey to answer the century-old question: How did Peter Pan become The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up? This epic origin story of one of popular culture’s most enduring and beloved characters proves that an audience’s imagination can be the most captivating place in the world.
The production will include music by Wayne Barker, choreography and movement by Steven Hoggett, music direction by Marco Paguia, scenic design by Donyale Werle, costume design by Paloma Young, lighting design by Jeff Croiter and sound design by Darron L. West.
The show's original off-Broadway run starred Adam Chanler-Berat as Boy, Christian Borle as Black Stache, Celia Keenan-Bolger as Molly, Arnie Burton as Mrs. Bumbrake, Kevin Del Aguila as Smee, Karl Kenzler as Lord Astor, Teddy Bergman as Fighting Prawn, Matt D'Amico as Slank, Brandon Dirden as Captain Scott, Carson Elrod as Prentiss, Greg Hildreth as Alf, Eric William Love as Sailor/Pirate and David Rossmer as Ted. The production opened on March 9 and ran through April 24.
Peter and the Starcatcher will be produced on Broadway by Nancy Nagel Gibbs and Greg Schaffert.
